How’d I get that cool Mastodon social logo on my site? 👀

Since the state of social media held by large corporations is a dumpster fire, I’ve been eternally grateful to have learned about the joys of the fediverse.

But, most mainstream services and places - cough Squarespace cough cough - don’t really know how to embrace the fediverse. So, did some searching and found Rebecca Grace’s super simple walkthrough on doing custom social icons yourself with a little CSS!

Here’s a few notes from my experience:

  1. Don’t fret about CSS and coding! The walkthrough gives simple, easy to follow guidance for you to get your custom social logo on!

  2. Squarespace hates custom SVG files. Didn’t care to research why, but there was no way around it. So, I eventually gave in and just used a PNG file. Not the same, but no one (other than the inner-perfectionist I’m constantly shushing) cares about such a small detail.

  3. You need to have the image file. I found the base Mastodon logo and modified it to fit the style of other social icons here.

Honestly, if you’re still reading this, you could’ve added some custom social icons to your Squarespace page already!

So, go - be custom!
