QuickBooks Design System
Accelerating innovation through all of QuickBooks
Intuit was working a hybrid model of Design Systems - one central team to unify its various brands while still having individual teams serving the needs of each business unit.
My role on the QuickBooks Design System dealt mostly with serving as a bridge between QuickBooks and the Intuit Design System. But, I still helped with miscellaneous task required to keep the team running.
Connecting two worlds
While being an active contributor to the Intuit Design System, I also had a foot inside the QuickBooks Design System. This was intentional so both teams stayed connected, informed, and actively collaborating on the envisioned future.
My responsibilities as that connective bridge included progressing the QuickBooks visual design refresh with the help of IDS, quality assurance of IDS assets meeting QuickBooks requirements, and informing the QBDS team on the status of IDS status and updates.
Run the business work
In addition to keeping the Design Systems in sync, I would help the QBDS with routine needs.
Design reviews - Does this component meet WCAG accessibility standards? Does this align with the IDS counterpart?
Community questions - Can this question be resolved with a quick email or does this require QBDS office hours?
Office hours - How can the Design System help this specific product team? Is this a common problem the Design System should solve for the community?
Although I typically devoted a smaller portion of my time to the QuickBooks Design System, the work was still critical to influence my participation on the Intuit Design System and empower the QuickBooks design community.
